Anita Guzeh, Youth Organizer
Hey…my name is Anita.
I’m a 12th grade student, and I attend Wilson High School.
My mom is Jamaican and my dad is African, so I’m part Jamaican and part African.
i am 17 years old, and I’m just like you.
I do a lot of youth-led work around my neighborhood because I like to have my voice be heard, and I like to stand up for those who feel like they don’t have a say.
I’m excited to work with YEA because they bring youth together to identify the problems in their schools and solve those problems collectively.
Sadé Harrison, Youth Organizer
My Name is Sadé Harrison. I am 16 years old. I am a senior at Thurgood Marshall Public Charter High School. When I graduate from high school I plan to attend Virginia Commonwealth University and study medicine so I can become a pediatrician. I love working with children. I really like working with YEA because it is a youth led organization. So, myself being a youth, this job gives me the opportunity to be heard and speak my mind on certain problems and situations that involve youth.
Ericke "Smoke" Lowery, Organizer
Please don't let the name fool you. I'm a young, strong-minded, respectful, well-educated, smart, Black African-American. I was born and raised in Southeast Washington, D.C. I came into the field of youth organizing through Metro Teen Aids, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent HIV/AIDS and STDs among today's youth. I'm here at YEA to help do all I can to better the schools and juvenile justice systems. I really enjoy working with the youth, it’s a very interesting developmental work field to be in. Carefully read this quote that I made up: "If you have a vision for a year, plant a tree. If you have a vision for a lifetime, train people on it."
