Improve Lunch Quality

Improve Lunch Quality

Do you want lunches that are healthy and tasty?

Are you tired of being hungry during class because the lunches taste nasty?

If the answer is yes, speak up! YEA mobilized hundreds of students and allies to demand changes in the menu and to ban irradiated meat in school lunches (it is treated with radiation and has been linked to cancer and genetic damage). The Board of Education banned irradiated foods from our lunches in 2004, and the Food Service Director, Mark Truax, has committed to make improvements to the menu in the fall of 2006.

Look for high-quality, fresh salads as part of the free lunch menu in all high schools this October. Coolidge will pilot deli sandwiches - fresh sandwiches made with a choice of ingredients - this fall. If the pilot is successful, all high schools will get custom deli sandwiches this year.

Let Mark know what you think of the new changes (202-576-7400), and organize students at your school to demand lunches that are fresh, tasty and healthy!
