YEA is committed to building youth power, improving the quality of public education, and changing the way people think about community issues. Because newspapers, magazines and TV programs tend to stereotype and underestimate youth of color, we’ve decided to make our own media and take our message directly to the public.

    This 8-minute video documents the work of YEA as students protest cuts in education and organize for better school conditions. It highlights key moments in the history of DC education organizing, from Black student organizing in the 60s to multi-racial student organizing in the 90s.

    These 40-page mini-magazines (‘zines for short) are written by YEA members and allies. They include poems, campaign updates, articles, drawings, music reviews, commentary on school issues and news from other youth groups. We print a new issue every semester.
