Have you been placed in the wrong classes, or in classes you've already taken?
Do you know what credits you need to graduate and go to college?
The American School Counselor Association recommends one guidance counselor for every 250 students, but most of our public high schools fail to meet that standard. This is a setup for failure.
The lack of adequate, focused counselor support hurts students. They end up in the wrong classes; they lack the credits needed to graduate on time; they miss important deadlines; and they give up on college dreams in the face of complex applications and financial aid requirements.
We deserve better. We call on the Board of Education, City Council and Mayor to fund an effective guidance counseling system in the 2008 budget – without sacrificing the other supports students need to succeed.
Guidance counselors are critical to student achievement, graduation, career development and employment. We need your help to set students up for success - contact us to get involved!
